- Removal of shortened cheek, tongue or lip ligament (frenulum)
- Elimination of disruptive bony outgrowths
- Diagnosis and treatment of dental related sinus diseases
- Removal of displaced root fragments
- Root tip removal
- Surgical periodontal treatment
- Mucous membrane transplants
- Exposure of displaced teeth prior to orthodontic correction
- Cyst surgery
- Conservative fracture treatment
- Treatment of jaw crest fractures and dislocated teeth
- Abscess draining
- Treatment of unwilling children
- Treatment of high-risk patients (e.g. patients with artificial heart valves, blood-thinning medication, etc.)
- Search for sources of inflammation e.g. before heart valve surgery
- or prior to radiation treatments
- Diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the salivary glands
- Diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the jaw and facial nerves
As a rule, the outpatient procedures result from a direct referral from your family dentist or doctor.
Surgery can be performed under local anesthesia,
sedation or general anesthesia.
The practice fulfils all necessary technical and logistical prerequisites to carry out operations safely and efficiently.
So that you know what to expect!
First, to ensure the best possible results, a preliminary consultation about the planned surgery will take place in our practice. During the consultation the procedure will be explained in detail. We take the time to fully answer all your questions. After all questions have been answered you are asked to sign the necessary written consent.
You should bring your health insurance card and the referral from your dentist or doctor (not required for privately insured patients) - and current X-ray's if available. During the consultation a date for the surgery will be agreed upon. You must bring a companion with you on the day of the operation.
You will receive all information you need while resting in our recovery area after surgery. This includes a fact sheet explaining what you can and cannot do after the operation as well as a mobile telephone phone number for your safety so that you can reach us at any time outside of our normal office hours.
After the post operative treatment is completed you are referred back to your treating physician. Your doctor is sent a report of all procedures carried out.
Surgical periodontal therapy
Gum treatment - Periodontics
The term periodontitis describes inflammation of the periodont, the tissue that surrounds and supports the teeth in the jaws. Similar to tooth decay, specific bacteria are responsible for periodontitis. The disease is often not noticed by those affected, since they can be completely free of pain for long periods of time. Eventually bleeding, receding gums or bad breath will be noticed. The inflammation eventually leads to the degeneration of the jawbone, which can lead to loosening of the teeth or even tooth loss. Periodontal disease is a leading cause of tooth loss in older people - even more common than tooth decay. Periodontal disease not only has implications in the mouth, it is a general health risk factor, for example, in heart disease and diabetes. If we detect periodontal disease during the examination, we perform an accurate diagnosis in order to determine the severity of the disease. The diagnosis includes x-rays, measuring the gum pockets and, if necessary, microbiological tests to determine which bacteria have caused the disease. Periodontitis is a chronic disease and requires long-term care and a coordinated treatment approach. Depending upon the severity of periodontitis, the treatment process is divided into the following steps:
Pre-treatment
The pre-treatment is used to establish the necessary conditions for the therapy. First plaque and tartar are removed through professional dental cleaning, resulting in the inflammation being contained and the number of bacteria reduced. An important factor for the success of the treatment is long-term good oral hygiene. We discuss with you what you need to optimize your oral hygiene at home.
Minimal invasive treatment
Minimal invasive treatment is all that is necessary for many forms of periodontal disease. In this case surgery is not necessary. Using special instruments, the gum pockets are thoroughly cleaned under local anesthesia. Hard and soft plaque that adhere to the tooth or root beneath the gums are removed and the bacterial film destroyed. In our practice we use state-of-the-art equipment for cleaning (ultrasonic and air flow / powder jet equipment). After cleaning the gum pockets are flushed with an anti-bacterial medication. In severe forms of periodontitis it may be necessary to carry out concurrent antibiotic therapy during the treatment.
Further information can be found in the scientific opinions of the German Society for Dental, Oral and Maxillofacial Medicine (DGZMK):

- Sonic and ultrasonic scalers in periodontal therapy
Surgical treatment
Surgical treatment may be necessary with highly advanced periodontitis where the gums have very deep pockets or the minimal invasive therapy has been unsuccessful. By loosening the gum line, the gum pocket can be examined and diseased tissue completely removed. The surgical treatment also provides advantages in that targeted measures can reduce the after-effects of periodontitis, such as bone loss. In this way long-term tooth retention is significantly improved.
Recall / aftercare
Periodontitis is a chronic disease and requires continuous care and control. Optimal oral hygiene at home is very important. In the course of the treatment we will show you which dental care aids are suitable. The importance of regular dental inspections cannot be over emphasized so that problem areas can be identified early and, if necessary, retreated. Regular professional teeth cleaning also stabilizes the results achieved by the treatment. Depending on the severity of the disease, two to four follow-up appointments a year are required. In our practice we use a special recall system that will automatically remind you of your next appointment.
Digital volume tomography
In our oral surgery practice we have an X-ray machine with 3D technology (digital volume tomography - DVT). With this new machine we extend our diagnostic options to the third dimension and can represent your jaw in its true three-dimensional space. This allows us to better analyze teeth position, the jaw joint and all anatomical structures of the facial bones in greater detail and determine an optimal individualized treatment method. This significant improvement in our diagnostic process allows us to plan operations more predictably and use the best possible method for the implant in order to meet the prosthetic requirements of your family dentist.
Volumentomograph
The DVT is used for the following tasks:
- Planning of dental implants
- Planning of bone reconstruction
- Localization of impacted and extra teeth
- Location of the nerve track in the lower jaw before a wisdom tooth removal
- Representation of the sinuses and nasal partition
- Fracture diagnostic of facial bones after accidents.
The examination offers the patient the following advantages:
- Up to 80% less radiation exposure compared with conventional computer tomography (CT)
- Performed and evaluated directly by the surgeon
- Representation of all structures in their original size (1:1)
- Free selection of the sectional plane, also during the examination
- Painless
- No contrast medium needed
- Takes only a few minutes
Disadvantages:
- Focus on the representation of the bony structures, cartilage and teeth; and less on soft tissue
- Not reimbursed by government health insurances
Cost of the treatment:
Invoices are prepared according to Section 6, para. 2 of the valid statutory scale of fees for physicians (GOÄ) No.5370 and 5377 which is comparable to computer tomography (CT) Many private insurance companies cover the cost of DVT.
Simple examination, e.g. determining teeth position at 1.3x base rate: € 198.17
Complex examination, e.g. dental implant planning at 1.8x base rate: € 256.45
Painless treatments
The following treatment options are provided in our practice:
- Local anesthesia
- Sedation
- Outpatient general anesthesia
We have a highly qualified team of anesthesiology specialists with trained nurses available twice a week. Your safety is our highest priority. Dr. med. dent. Peter Schneider
You can rely on state-of-the-art anesthesia techniques in combination with the latest monitoring and anesthesia equipment.
Thanks to modern, targeted and effective anesthetics you can normally be dismissed from the recovery room after only a few hours.
We address the special needs and fears of children. You can accompany your child into the treatment room. After surgery, you are right back in the recovery room with your child.
Implant dentistry
Over the last twenty years oral implant dentistry has evolved into a successful and scientifically based treatment. Dental implants
(usually made of pure titanium) can be painlessly inserted in the jaw bone under local anesthesia. After a healing period (called osseointegration) the implant takes over the function of natural roots for the attachment of crowns, bridges or dentures, depending on the initial condition of the teeth and the remaining natural teeth. After referral by your family dentist, comprehensive consultation, diagnosis and implantation can be performed in our practice.
The procedure is always carried out in close collaboration with your family dentist, because unless otherwise agreed, after implant placement and healing other prosthetic restoration is carried out by your family dentist. Only this close collaboration can ensure the long-term success of your implant treatment.

Inpatient treatment
In addition to consulting for the district hospital in Neustadt/Aisch, since June 2010 we also been performing operations under inpatient conditions.
